Recycling - What Is Accepted?

Our customers are limited to what the recycling facility will accept. Please do not cross mingle items that are un-recyclable with your recyclables. The recycling system has changed significantly over the last decade and continues to change. Whenever possible, "reuse". It is 100% best practice to keep unnecessary waste out of the landfills and lessen their footprint.

Accepted Items "Recyclables"

  • Clean paper, cardboard and newsprint

  • Rigid plastic food and beverage containers (#1 and #2)

  • Steel, aluminum and bi-metal food and beverage containers

  • Fold-top milk and soup cartons

  • All items should be rinsed and free of contaminants

Not Accepted "Waste"

  • Light bulbs, mirrors, window glass and ceramics

  • Plastic items #3 through #7

  • Glass food and beverage containers (all colors)

  • Containers with food and liquid residue remaining

  • Pizza boxes and wet paper products

  • Garden hoses

  • All metals except for those identified as acceptable

Recycling Schedule

Recycling pickup occurs once per month either on the 1st or 3rd Friday of the month. Similar to how trash pickup occurs, please put your recycling out the Thursday night prior to pickup. The 1st Friday may mean the 1st of the month.

If there are questions, please contact the office.

Derry Township customers have recycling on the 1st Friday of every month. You should place your red bin and recyclables at the curb by 8pm the night before.

Unity Township customers have recycling on the 3rd Friday of every month. You should place your red bin and recyclables at the curb by 8pm the night before.

You must use the provided round, red bin for your recyclables. Its contents can be "comingled" meaning they do not need to be separated to be accepted at the sorting facility. For additional recycling cans please call the office.

Where to Take Items We Do NOT Accept?

For items listed above, there are options. Please consider the following.

Lightly-used furniture, clothing, household appliances that still work (always call first).

Electronics, bulbs/fixtures, glass, tires & more.

Scrap Metal, old non-working appliances, unusable furniture, etc.

  • Facebook will be your best friend for these items. Look to local pages or consider posting                                                                on Marketplace. There are many smaller haulers that do this for a few bucks or even free!
